Grateful
Grateful!
Being grateful is so important and there are so many things we can be grateful for. I think that we take to many things for granted in our lives, especially in the industrialized societies. We have fresh water from the tap, a bed to sleep in, a supportive society that acts like a caring mother if we have a crisis, a fridge full of food, a work to go to, trillions of food products to choose from and on it goes.
But, why aren’t we happier than the people in the developing countries that actually struggle to survive e v e r y day?
If we view it through a goal-oriented perspective, the people in the developing countries have the mission of surviving or keeping it together. We, on the other hand have everything we need to survive and the goal is unclear since we are striving towards endless incompleteness.
Why can we not feel that we have had enough?
It is frustrating that we have a desire to own more things that we can handle or even remember. – Yes, I think we’ve all have been there, finding a storage full of things that you didn’t remember you had… - It is frustrating that we have the desire to feel that something is “mine”. And most of all, it is absolutely insane that we think that we would choose people over things but we in many situation value things over people.
Yes, it is true.
But, no matter how embarrassedly true this is, we have the p o w e r to change it. We always have the power, and, we should always start with ourselves.
Give yourself time to reflect when you’re about to buy something. Do you really need it? Give yourself time to reflect the next time you appear in a situation where you can give to the once who have less. What stops you from doing it?
Give yourself time to reflect when you turn on the tap, r e f l e c t, think thankyou and feel grateful for the life you have been given.
Because, yes, unfortunately enough the world might never become as equal as we wish for. There are always people that have less or more than you have but if you are giving and feel grateful I think that the world might become a better place to share.
